7. Remove Logoff & ShutDown option from Start Menu

Want to play with your Operating System? Want to take power of controlling the way your computer behaves?

Here is a Simple and Safe way to remove Logoff and Shutdown button from Start Menu. Proceed with caution....



STEP 1 : On the Run prompt write "gpedit.msc" and hit enter. The group Policy window will appear.

STEP 2 : Browse to User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Start Menu and Taskbar

STEP 3 : Locate "Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down command" and double click on it to open the property dialogue box.



STEP 4 : Select "Enabled" radio button. Apply. OK.



STEP 5 : Locate "Remove Logoff on the Start Menu", Repeat rest of step 3 and 4.

Feel the difference.

6. How to make your Desktop Icon Names Transparent



Got the selected type box around the name of every desktop item ?


Here is the simple steps to make it transparent.

STEP 1 : Open the system properties box by going Control Panel -> System or by pressing windows logo key plus Pause/Break key.


STEP 2 : Go to Advanced tab, then click on "setting" under "Performance" sub category. Performance Options box will open.

STEP 3 : Select "Custom" radio button, then mark the checkbox reading "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the Desktop". Apply. OK.

5. Make Menus appear faster


Got bored by waiting for the Start Menu to come up ? Right Clicked on a file or folder, but option list is not coming ?

The default speed of the menus are pretty slow, but follow the below steps to make it faster.

STEP 1 : Open Registry Editor by writing "regedit" in run prompt (by bringing it with CTRL+R)

STEP 2 : Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ Desktop and then locate "MenuShowDelay".


STEP 3 : Right click on it, then modify. Put 0 in Value Data field (Default will be 400). OK and exit registry editor.


STEP 4 : Right Click on you desktop, go to Properties -> Appearance -> Effects...
Uncheck the option "Show windows under menus". OK. OK.


Now you will notice a significant change in the speed that start menu opens.

4. Rename multiple files in a single shot



Need to change extension of 1000 files listed in a search result. Want to rename multiple files in a single shot.

please follow the below simple steps

STEP 1 : Copy all the files that you wanted to rename in batch into one sigle folder

STEP 2 : Open a New Text Document by right click under the same folder.

STEP 3 : Rename it as "Rename.bat" [u can give any name u like, but extension should be .bat]

ignore the warning of file may be unusable and hit OK.

STEP 4 : Right click on the .bat file and click "Edit", a new blank text document will open.

STEP 5 : Put the codes in format "ren *.[from extension]*.[to extension]"

example to change all jpg files to gif format, write : ren *.jpg *.gif

save it.

STEP 6 : Now, just double click on the Rename.bat icon and feel the difference.

All files matching the from extension criteria will be changed to specified extensions.

Multiple from-extension to One to-extension will work.

Multiple from-extension to Multiple to-extension will work. [No same extension in from-extension list should be selected twice]

One from-extension to One to-extension will work.

One from-extension to Multiple to-extension will NOT work.

3. Send Emails autometically, without bein present in front of your computer


Do you want to send a mail at exactly early mooring without getting up and opening your Outlook. Do you want to send a reply after 2 hrs, but now you want to go out for city trip ?

Here are the simple to follow steps which will guide you through sending emails on a later date/time.

STEP 1 : Open Microsoft Office Outlook. Open a new blank email page.


STEP 2 : Write a new mail as usual. make sure to Put a valid emailid at To box at least.


STEP 3 : Select "Options" tab and then Click on "Delay Delivery".

STEP 4 : Mark the checkbox "Do not deliver before" and the specify the desired date and time you want to wish send the mail automatically. Click Close.


STEP 5 : Click SEND button on the newly written email message.


The mail will be sent on the specified date/time to the specified recipient(s).
You can use it on reply to another existing mail. You need to click Reply instead of a new mail massage in STEP1.

2. Disabling "Error Reporting" in Windows XP


Does any of the application keep on crashing and every time helplessly asking for apology and then asks you to send the error report to Microsoft.

STEP 1 : Right click on the icon of My Computer then click on "properties" or press Windows Logo Key plus Pause/break key at the same time.

STEP 2 : Locate the "Error Reporting Service". then Right click, go to "Properties".



STEP 3 : Choose "Start Up Type" as "Disabled" from the drop down menu, Hit the "Stop" button for "Service Status". Click OK.

1. Turn off “Your computer might be at risk” in Windows XP

Any new instalation of Windows XP with SP2 will pop out this annoying message frequently. It says :

Your computer might be at risk. Antivirus software might not be installed.



Here are simple to follow steps to turn it off:

STEP 1 : Go to "Control Panel" then open "Security Centre"



STEP 2 : Whichever item(s) among Firewall, Automatic Updates, Virus Protection has highlighted in RED, click on double down arrow to expand and then click on "Recommendations".



STEP 3 : Check the option says "I have an antivirus program that I'll monitor myself......" and click OK.



STEP 4 : You can edit the alert getting option for all 3 items under Security Center. Go for option "Change the way Security Center alerts me link at the left in Windows Security Center."



STEP 5 : Choose the option you do not want to be alerted and uncheck it. Press OK.



That's It.....You have burried that anooying ballon maker.
